You’ll play a key part within the Procurement and Supply Chain team focused on a variety of direct and indirect activities.Day-to-day, you’ll:<ul><li>Process requisitions and place purchase orders/contracts efficiently and timely to meet service levels.</li><li>Carry out sourcing and supplier allocation activities in support of business objectives.</li><li>Manage supplier order books to ensure goods/services arrive on time and meet specifications.</li><li>Assist in supplier performance and relationship management to sustain and improve outcomes.</li><li>Coordinate with wider programme teams to ensure project requirements are met to planned time, cost, and specification.</li></ul> This role is full time, 37 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with 4 days in the office/onsite and 1 days working from home.Essential experience of the Buyer<ul><li>Knowledge of commercial business practices and strong communication skills.</li><li>Proven experience within a procurement or buying role, preferably in defence, manufacturing or engineering.</li><li>Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint.</li><li>Familiarity with procurement systems such as ERP/MRP technologies.</li><li>Experience working in cross-functional teams and managing stakeholders in an operational environment.</li></ul>We value difference and don’t have a fixed idea when it comes to background or education, provided you can show the required level of experience and/or willingness to learn then we would like to hear from you.Security ClearanceThe successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain UK - BPSS + Non Police Personnel Vetting 1 security clearance for this role.Many of the positions within our company are subject to national security clearance and Trade Control restrictions. This is an opportunity to consolidate, strategise, and transform how procurement operates across the organisation.This is a management role with a genuine chance to shape the future of procurement for a well-established business.Key Responsibilities:<ul><li>Design and deliver a clear procurement strategy, focusing on cost-effective sourcing, supplier performance, and operational efficiency.</li><li>Lead, motivate and upskill the procurement function, supporting their continued development</li><li>Consolidate the supplier base and manage key commercial relationships. Machining and plastic mouldings are major areas of spend, alongside wider products and services.</li><li>Partnering with business areas including&nbsp; Planning, Production, Engineering and Design teams to ensure timely delivery of high-quality goods and services.</li><li>Introduce supplier performance metrics and a compliance framework aligned with internal and external standards.</li><li>Collaborate with global suppliers and engage with international procurement teams to leverage synergies across the wider business.</li></ul>About You:<ul><li>CIPS-qualified, with a strong grasp of procurement best practice and contract law.</li><li>Ability to lead and develop procurement teams.</li><li>Experienced within the durable goods or wider manufacturing sectors. Including experience in sourcing machining and plastic mouldings.</li><li>A confident negotiator, influencer, and stakeholder management skills</li><li>Able to drive change and continuous improvement through process and people.</li></ul>
