The role
As a Mechanical Fitter, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You’ll be at the heart of our Marine Engineering team, helping to maintain and support critical systems that keep the Royal Navy operational. Whether you're inspecting, repairing or improving mechanical systems, your work will directly contribute to national defence and your own professional growth.
Day-to-day you’ll be required to:
- Carry out mechanical fitting, repairs and inspections on marine systems and equipment
- Complete planned preventative maintenance and nuclear-implicated tasks
- Identify and resolve system defects to ensure operational readiness
- Follow health and safety legislation and safe systems of work
- Suggest improvements to enhance productivity and performance
This role is full time, 36 hours per week Monday to Thursday and is based at HMNB Clyde Faslane site.
Essential experience of the Mechanical Fitter
- Background in marine or industrial engineering, with mechanical maintenance experience
- Comfortable working at heights, in confined spaces and in all weather conditions
- Able to read and interpret technical drawings and solve problems independently
- Strong attention to detail and fault-finding skills
- Familiar with maintenance procedures, COSHH, risk assessments and safe systems of work
Qualifications for the Mechanical Fitter
- Recognised Mechanical Engineering Apprenticeship (SVQ Level 3, NVQ, or City & Guilds equivalent) or HNC or above in a Mechanical Engineering discipline with relevant industry experience
Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
