The role

As a Weapons Engineer, you’ll take on a specialist instructional role delivering Weapons Electrical training for Astute Class submarines. This is a unique opportunity to combine teaching expertise with technical knowledge, ensuring future submarine crews are trained to the highest standards. You’ll also support course design and integrate technical changes into training materials, making a direct impact on the Royal Navy’s operational capability.

Day-to-day you’ll be required to:

  • Deliver Weapons Electrical and submarine systems training to student groups
  • Support courseware updates and integrate technical changes into training materials
  • Provide subject matter expertise for training design and business development activities
  • Conduct administration, reporting, and compliance tasks to meet contractual standards
  • Uphold health, safety, and environmental procedures while occasionally supporting training at secondary UK sites

This role is full time, 37.5 hours per week and is based on site at Faslane.

Essential experience of the Weapons Engineer:

  • Ex-Royal Navy (RN) WE Watch Keeper
  • Sound knowledge and application of submarine Tactical Weapons Engineering System
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Sonar, Integrated Communications System, Command Systems or Weapons Engineering
  • Detailed knowledge and understanding of WE equipment
  • High levels of IT proficiency and strong organisational skills

Qualifications for the Weapons Engineer:

We value difference and don’t have a fixed idea when it comes to background or education, provided you can show the required level of experience and/or willingness to learn then we would like to hear from you. However, an engineering qualification is desirable.

Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
