As a Trade Controls Advisor, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You'll play a vital role in supporting compliance across Babcock's Marine Sector, helping ensure that business activities align with UK and international trade control regulations. Working at the heart of a specialist compliance function, you'll provide expert guidance on import and export controls, sanctions, licensing requirements, and regulatory obligations that support critical defence and engineering programmes.
This is an exciting opportunity to influence major projects, support business growth, and work alongside a wide range of stakeholders across operational, project, and business development teams. Your expertise will help protect the business from regulatory risk while enabling the successful delivery of projects that contribute to national security and public infrastructure
Day-to-day, you’ll be required to:
- Provide advice and guidance on UK and international trade control regulations, including import and export compliance requirements.
- Support licence applications and associated trade control processes across the business.
- Develop and maintain policies, procedures, training, and awareness programmes to strengthen compliance.
- Collaborate with project, operational, and business development teams to embed trade controls throughout the business lifecycle.
- Monitor compliance activities, maintain records, and support audits and assurance reviews.
This is a full-time, permanent position based at Devonport Royal Dockyard. 35 hours per week. Flexible working arrangements are available, with onsite attendance required as business needs demand. Set working times are 7:30am to 3:30pm Monday to Thursday and 7:30am to 12:30pm Friday
Essential experience of the Trade Controls Advisor
- Experience in trade controls administration and regulatory compliance.
- Knowledge of UK import and export compliance requirements.
- Experience of United States export control regulations, including International Traffic in Arms Regulations and Export Administration Regulations.
- Ability to provide compliance advice and support to a wide range of stakeholders.
- Experience supporting licence applications and trade control processes
Qualifications for the Trade Controls Advisor
Essential:
- Relevant experience in trade controls administration, including UK import/export compliance and United States export compliance regulations.
Desirable:
- Degree-level qualification, or working towards one, in a relevant discipline such as international business, international relations, law, governance, or a related subject.
- Membership of, or affiliation with, the Chartered Institute of Export & International Trade.
Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
