The role

As a Senior Project Manager, you will lead and shape a complex, long-term nuclear programme at an early and influential stage of its lifecycle. This is a high-impact leadership role is in the defence business unit stream, where you will set strategic direction, oversee project governance, and guide multidisciplinary teams to deliver safe, sustainable, and cost-effective outcomes.

The role is based at Bristol Technology Centre, working 37 hours per week. Hybrid working patterns are available, with regular collaboration across internal teams, partners, and customers.

Day-to-day, you’ll be required to:

  • Leading large-scale nuclear projects and programmes, ensuring delivery against cost, schedule, quality, and safety objectives
  • Managing and developing high-performing project teams, including project managers, engineers, and graduates
  • Driving robust governance, assurance, and reporting in line with internal and customer expectations
  • Engaging confidently with senior stakeholders, clients, and joint venture partners across multiple organisations
  • Shaping programme strategy through lifecycle planning, cost forecasting, and risk management

Essential experience of the Senior Project Manager:

  • Delivering complex projects or programmes valued at £10–15 million or above
  • Managing projects with multiple stakeholders, including joint ventures and matrix organisations
  • Working within regulated or high-hazard environments, ideally nuclear or defence
  • Leading teams with a clear, self-aware leadership style that drives accountability and performance
  • Influencing at senior level with customers and internal decision-makers

Qualifications for the Senior Project Manager:

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in engineering, project management, construction management, or a related discipline
  • Membership of a recognised project management body, such as the Association for Project Management
  • Chartered Project Professional status or working towards chartership is advantageous

Security Clearance
