The role

As a Senior Project Controller, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You will play a central role in shaping the success of some of the UK’s most critical defence programmes. This is an exciting opportunity to support the delivery of complex submarine planning projects—work that directly contributes to national security and global safety. You’ll help lead a multi‑disciplined project controls team, acting as deputy to the Project Controls Manager and driving consistent, accurate and insightful performance reporting.

Day-to-day, you’ll be expected to:

  • Support the Project Controls Manager in managing performance across the A‑Class Planning Programme.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to build and maintain standardised reporting processes across project control functions.
  • Work closely with the Project Manager to interpret performance insights and recommend mitigation actions.
  • Provide clear visibility of schedule, cost, risk and scope performance using KPIs and analytics.
  • Encourage the integration of project control functions to improve efficiency and decision‑making.

This is a full‑time position, 35 hours per week, based in Plymouth, Devon. Hybrid working patterns are available, with a typical onsite presence of three days per week.

Essential experience of the Senior Project Controller:

  • Experience in at least one project control function (risk, cost, scheduling, estimating, scope management).
  • Understanding of how project control functions integrate to build a holistic project performance view.
  • Knowledge of Power BI and data analytics to support project decision‑making.
  • Experience in a fast‑paced, complex project environment (submarines experience beneficial).
  • Proven leadership capability to bring teams together toward shared goals.

Qualifications for the Senior Project Controller:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, project management, construction management or a related discipline.
  • APM Project Management Qualification (PMQ) or equivalent.
  • APM Project Planning and Controls (PPC) or equivalent.

Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Standard (BPSS) / Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
