As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you’ll work on complex engineering challenges, lead multidisciplinary design packages, and help deliver innovative solutions that are essential to national security. Day-to-day, you’ll provide technical leadership across complex mechanical handling and infrastructure projects, taking ownership of critical engineering work packages from concept through to delivery. Working within a highly regulated environment, you'll drive safe, high-quality and cost-effective engineering solutions while mentoring engineers and collaborating with stakeholders across multiple disciplines.
- Leading the delivery of multidisciplinary mechanical handling and dockside engineering design packages.
- Managing technical requirements, risks, interfaces and engineering deliverables throughout the project lifecycle.
- Reviewing and verifying calculations, drawings, specifications and technical documentation to ensure fitness for purpose.
- Driving design reviews, optioneering activities and engineering best practice to achieve safe and effective solutions.
- Mentoring engineers and coordinating suppliers, stakeholders and project teams to achieve successful project outcomes.
This role is full time, 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with a minimum of 3 days onsite.
Essential experience of the Senior Mechanical Engineer
- Experience leading complex engineering projects involving cranes, mechanical handling systems and mechanical and electrical infrastructure.
- Experience managing crane safety, protection systems and integration with existing assets and controls.
- Experience delivering mechanical and electrical integration activities across multidisciplinary engineering projects.
- Experience working within highly regulated industries such as defence, nuclear, marine, infrastructure or heavy engineering.
- Experience leading design reviews, technical assurance activities and engineering delivery through the full project lifecycle.
Qualifications for the Senior Mechanical Engineer
- Degree or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- Chartered Engineer status is desirable.
- Membership of a relevant professional engineering institution is advantageous.
- Alternatively, significant demonstrable engineering experience with the capability to achieve Chartered Engineer registration.

The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
