The role
As a Senior Electrical, Control and Instrumentation Design Engineer, you’ll lead the design and delivery of complex EC&I systems for some of the UK’s most critical defence and infrastructure projects. This is your chance to make a tangible impact, shaping new capabilities, extending asset lifecycles and ensuring operational resilience in one of the country’s most advanced engineering environments.
Day-to-day, you’ll be responsible for leading C&I design aspects of design projects following the design lifecycle.
- Lead EC&I design activities across the full project lifecycle.
- Develop and manage requirements, engineering plans and specifications.
- Produce design documentation including drawings, reports and manuals.
- Support commissioning and provide technical input during implementation phases.
- Mentor and coach Engineers, Graduates and Apprentices.
This role is full time, 35 hours per week and is based on site at Devonport Royal Dockyard.
Essential experience of the Senior EC&I Design Engineer
- Significant knowledge of electrical control and instrumentation engineering, including hardware and software systems.
- Strong understanding of relevant industry legislation for electrical systems.
- Proven experience designing EC&I systems.
- Ability to engage with customers and stakeholders to capture requirements.
- Leadership skills with experience mentoring and developing Engineers.
Qualifications for the Senior EC&I Design Engineer
- Degree in electrical engineering or equivalent experience with HNC.
- Professional registration with an engineering body (desirable).
- IOSH Managing Safely training (advantageous).
