Lead commercial strategy at one of the UK’s most important maritime sites

At Babcock, we’re working to create a safe and secure world, together. If you join us, you can play your part as a Senior Commercial Manager at Rosyth Royal Dockyard, near Dunfermline, Fife. Babcock is a trusted international defence, aerospace and engineering organisation. Our people support the armed forces, deliver critical national infrastructure and help protect communities — work that truly matters, every day.

The role

As a Senior Commercial Manager, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping the commercial direction of Rosyth Royal Dockyard — a strategically vital site supporting UK defence and marine operations. This is a high‑impact opportunity to influence site strategy, strengthen commercial governance and support complex operational activities across facilities management, marine operations, ports and harbour services, and major capital investment projects. Working closely with senior leadership, supply chain teams and stakeholders across the business, you’ll ensure robust commercial practice while enabling safe, efficient and compliant delivery.

This role offers variety, influence and visibility, with regular exposure to senior leaders and the opportunity to leave a lasting mark on a growing operation — all while further developing your career in a dynamic and purpose‑led environment.

Day-to-day, you’ll have the following responsibilities:

  • Providing commercial leadership and advice across site operations, including facilities, marine operations and capital expenditure programmes
  • Supporting the Operations Director on all commercial aspects of site delivery, governance and performance
  • Managing commercial responsibility for major site capital projects, implementing structured and compliant procurement plans
  • Advising supply chain teams on subcontract negotiations, contract terms and best commercial practice
  • Building effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders to enable successful delivery.

You’ll work 36 hours per week, mostly within the standard working week, based at Rosyth Royal Dockyard. Hybrid working patterns are available, with an expectation of being onsite for at least two to three days per week.

Essential experience of the Senior Commercial Manager:

  • Strong operational commercial experience within complex, regulated environments
  • Detailed knowledge of commercial terms, agreements and commercial strategy
  • Proven ability to manage stakeholder relationships and influence at senior levels
  • Excellent communication, collaboration and risk management skills
  • Experience working to tight governance and delivery deadlines

Qualifications for the Senior Commercial Manager:

  • Degree qualified (or equivalent experience) in Quantity Surveying, Engineering, Business, Law or Accountancy
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel for business purposes
