You’ll be part of our Mission Systems team helping to operate and support secure satellite communications that the UK’s Armed Forces rely on work that underpins national security and delivers real‑world impact.
The role
As a Second Line Support Engineer you will have the opportunity to join the team at an evolutionary point the of our Satellite Communications project, replenishing the infrastructure in line with our service delivery wrap.
The Second Line Engineer is an integral part of the escalation team for the Satellite Communications Network, where you will be required to complete both scheduled and unscheduled maintenance tasks as part of a team providing solutions to complex engineering problems
Day-to-day, you’ll:
- Complete routine and scheduled maintenance in line with work orders, maintenance schedules, and support documentation.
- Drive reactive maintenance activities and contribute to continuous improvement.
- Report, diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve system alarms and anomalies.
- Produce comprehensive fault reports and accurately record all maintenance activities.
- Work closely with stakeholders and operational support teams to ensure the delivery of satellite services.
- Provide out‑of‑hours technical on‑call support to the Operations team.
This role is full time, 37 hours per week and is based on-site at Colerne, with opportunity for flexible working.
Essential experience of the Second Line Support Engineer
- CompTIA Network+ or equivalent experience.
- Understanding and experience of maintaining high‑power RF (Radio Frequency) transmission and antenna systems.
- Competence and certification to work at height.
- Skilled in installing and repairing fibre and copper cable systems.
- Proven experience in maintaining and fault‑finding on satellite communications equipment, including control and monitoring systems.
- Strong organisational and workload‑prioritisation skills, with the ability to work autonomously.
Qualifications for the Second Line Support Engineer
- HNC or above in Electrical/Electronic Engineering (or relevant equivalent experience).
- Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) qualified/competent.
- Full UK driving licence.
Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role. Must be Sole UK national.
