The role

As a Radioactive Waste Defuel Implementation Manager, you’ll be at the forefront of a pioneering team that’s redefining how radioactive waste is managed and disposed of. This is a unique opportunity to shape the strategy and delivery of defuel waste disposal, ensuring compliance with MoD and regulatory requirements. Your work will directly contribute to national defence and environmental safety, while accelerating your career in one of the UK’s most critical and rewarding sectors.

Day-to-day, you’ll support the Radioactive Waste Disposal Team to meet the MoD and regulator requirements.

  • Creating and delivering the strategy for radioactive waste disposal of defuel generated wastes.
  • Developing end-to-end plans for waste processing and disposal, collaborating with operational and technical teams.
  • Working closely with the supply chain to ensure best value for the MoD.
  • Identifying and implementing best practices to improve procedures and processes.
  • Informing key stakeholders and ensuring seamless project oversight.

This role is full time, 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with days in the office/onsite and days working from home.

Essential experience of the Radioactive Waste Defuel Implementation Manager:

  • Knowledge of operations and control of work on a nuclear licensed site.
  • Understanding of Environmental Permitting Regulations and Nuclear Installations Act Licence conditions.
  • Experience in technical document creation and management.
  • Proven project management skills, including work breakdown structures and planning.
  • Background in radioactive waste disposal or high hazard industries.

Qualifications for the Radioactive Waste Defuel Implementation Manager:

  • HNC in an Engineering subject or an appropriate APM qualification.
  • Equivalent experience may be considered in place of formal qualifications.
