
Project Engineer - Mechanical (SC Cleared)

In this full time permanent position, you will, acing as a Senior Mechanical Engineer in the London office, predominantly focus on delivering UK Government Defence Projects.
This role will make a difference to our business and team in the following ways:
Responsibly of the delivery of engineering services from design through to construction. Project Leader responsible for the delivery of medium and large sized single and multi-disciplinary projects.
This role primarily works independently applying deep technical knowledge and skills on large/complex projects. May be involved in mentoring less experienced team members, act as a Project Leader responsible for project performance over time and/or manage a small team (typically 1-2 direct reports).
− Co-ordinate and plan commitments, resources and balance workload across available projects to efficiently and effectively meet project deadlines and cost/fee requirements.
− Monitor workload and advise line manager where additional skills are required, and when over/under utilisation is likely to occur.
− Monitors spend against proposal for own projects handled and identifies variances for discussion.
− Addresses non-conformance within project timescales to ensure timely delivery.
− Drive the collection of unpaid fees with assistance from accounts
− Build and maintain client relationships to secure new work by actively marketing NDY’s services. As required, creates submissions and presentations that effectively markets NDY and accurately addresses the client’s perspective.
Accountabilities
− Design and document systems through concept, design development and detailed documentation phases.
− Act as Project Leader on assigned projects, which may require the nomination of project engineers and reviewers for projects where appropriate. Plan and resource projects to ensure all NDY activities and designs are fully coordinated and implemented in line with NDY’s Project Management methodology.
- Assist the Project Leader on assigned projects – responsible for the firm’s overall involvement on the project and the administration of design interface between multiple disciplines.
- Demonstrate ability to effectively communicate with staff at all levels including a proven ability to communicate with technical staff across multiple disciplines.

- Act as the project leader for internal multi-disciplinary engineering project teams, predominantly for London based commercial office projects
- Represent the company at external project meetings with the client and external design teams
- Mechanical building services engineering consultancy and design for large scale projects up to RIBA Stage 4A
- Co-ordinate mechanical services designs with other building services disciplines and with external parties including architects and structural engineers
- Project management including resourcing and managing project finances
- Manage multiple projects and successfully dealing with conflicting obligations
- Ensure that the Quality System is implemented and maintained on projects
- Develop Project Leader skills in line with work opportunities
- Participate in developing the Mechanical team technical capability
- Take part in personal and professional development training as required
Assist in developing technical capability of more junior Mechanical Engineers
Qualifications & Certifications- A minimum of 5 years (ideally 8-10) engineering experience in the field of mechanical building services design
A recognised mechanical engineering qualification
Skills & Experience:- Previous project leader/project management experience with multi-disciplinary project teams, including managing project resources and project finances
- Experience designing commercial office buildings.
- Highly effective communication skills, both written and verbal
- Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to effectively communicate with staff at all levels as well as with different technical backgrounds
- The ability to exercise substantial initiative and high-level judgement and to work autonomously to meet objectives
- Familiarity with the full range of RIBA design stages, from Stage 1 right through to Stage 4A tender design
- A working level understanding of other engineering disciplines including electrical, public health and fire protection is highly desirable
