The role

As a Project Controls Manager, you’ll lead the development and implementation of our Project Management Office (PMO) strategy within a fast-paced vehicle conversion and manufacturing environment. This is a strategic and delivery-focused role where you’ll oversee the planning, execution, and governance of complex engineering and production programmes, ensuring alignment with business goals, regulatory standards, and customer expectations.

Day-to-day you’ll be required to:

  • Design, embed, and lead PMO strategy, processes, and localised project control mechanisms tailored to manufacturing and engineering environments.
  • Oversee cross-functional project delivery across design, procurement, production, and quality assurance.
  • Implement robust governance frameworks to manage risk, compliance, and change control.
  • Act as Gate Keeper and Mentor to ensure project lifecycle stages, gate reviews, and approval processes are understood and followed.
  • Champion digital tools and systems for project tracking and reporting (e.g., MS Project, ERP systems, PowerBI dashboards).

The role is based onsite at Walsall, and the set working times are Monday to Thursday, with an early finish on Friday, totalling 37.5 hours per week. Hybrid working patterns are available.

Essential experience of the Project Controls Manager:

  • Proven experience leading PMO or large-scale project portfolios in manufacturing, automotive, or engineering sectors.
  • Excellent leadership and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Ability to take initiative, work independently under pressure, organise and prioritise tasks.
  • Ability to mentor and develop project managers and coordinators.

Qualifications for the Project Controls Manager:

  • Degree in Project Management, Engineering or closely related fields.
  • Certified to either PRINCE2 Practitioner or APM PMQ, with proven post-qualification experience.
  • Proficiency in project management methodologies (Agile, Waterfall, PRINCE2).
  • Expertise in project planning tools (e.g., MS Project, Primavera, ERP systems).

Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Standard (BPSS) Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
