The role

As a Principal Engineer Civil and Structural, you’ll have an exciting opportunity to join our Major Structures Group, where you’ll help develop the future capability of critical assets across one of the UK's most strategically important engineering environments. Working at the heart of defence infrastructure, you'll combine technical leadership, engineering excellence and innovation to deliver work that makes a real difference to national security, operational readiness and public safety.

Day-to-day, you’ll provide technical leadership across a diverse portfolio of infrastructure projects and assets. You'll play a key role in the through-life management of facilities across Devonport Royal Dockyard, ensuring critical infrastructure remains safe, operational and fit for purpose. This role offers the opportunity to influence complex engineering solutions, lead talented engineers and further develop your career within a global engineering organisation.

  • Undertaking civil and structural engineering design, assessment and analysis activities for a range of infrastructure assets.
  • Carrying out inspections of civil and structural assets across the Devonport site and identifying defects and improvement opportunities.
  • Specifying appropriate repair materials, remediation techniques and engineering solutions.
  • Liaising with facility operators, plant managers, customers and multidisciplinary engineering teams to deliver effective outcomes.
  • Leading and developing engineers while providing technical advice, scopes of work and engineering specifications.

This role is full time, 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with a minimum of 3 days per week in the office/onsite.

Essential experience of the Principal Engineer Civil and Structural

  • Demonstrating a strong understanding of civil and structural engineering principles and practices.
  • Possessing knowledge of complex structures; experience with nuclear safety-related structures would be advantageous.
  • Communicating effectively with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Showing the ability to work independently, adapt quickly and learn in a dynamic environment.
  • Delivering high-quality engineering outputs to agreed schedules and deadlines.
