The role
As a Portfolio Delivery Manager, you’ll be at the heart of delivering strategic infrastructure improvements that support the UK’s defence capability. Working closely with the Ministry of Defence and senior stakeholders, you’ll ensure robust governance and delivery across complex, multi-million-pound programmes. This is a role where your expertise will make a tangible difference to national security while accelerating your own career development in a dynamic, high-profile environment.
Day-to-day, you’ll be responsible for supporting the Senior Portfolio Manager in maintaining effective Governance and Delivery across our complex infrastructure programs and projects at Devonport.
- Manage a coherent portfolio of programmes and projects aligned to organisational strategy.
- Contribute to annual and quarterly portfolio planning cycles, including prioritisation and resource forecasting.
- Monitor and manage performance across the portfolio, ensuring delivery to time, cost, scope, and quality.
- Identify and manage cross-programme dependencies, risks, and opportunities.
- Maintain robust governance structures, including review boards and reporting frameworks.
This role is full time, 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with 2-3 days in the office/onsite and 2-3 days working from home.
Essential experience of the Portfolio Delivery Manager - Governance
- Strong knowledge of portfolio controls principles (cost, schedule, risk, change).
- Experience of governance models, data modelling, analytics, and visualisation tools.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Familiarity with tools such as Power BI and Azure DevOps (beneficial).
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Qualifications for the Portfolio Delivery Manager - Governance
- Proven experience in governance within a complex, secure environment.
- Degree-level education preferred or equivalent experience in business change.
- Certifications such as MoP, PMP, PgMP, PRINCE2, or P3O are advantageous.
Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Standard (BPSS) / Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
