The role
As an NDT Quality Inspector, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You’ll be at the heart of one of the UK’s most exciting defence programmes - the T31 Frigate Programme. This is a rare opportunity to contribute to the structural integrity and safety of advanced naval vessels, ensuring they meet the highest standards of quality and compliance. Your work will directly support national defence and global maritime security, while accelerating your career in a dynamic and purpose-driven environment.
Day-to-day you’ll be:
- Conducting structural and non-destructive testing (NDT) inspections of ship structures
- Performing ultrasonic inspections of welds and components
- Coordinating Lloyds Register inspections and managing their inspection diary
- Carrying out product verification audits and onboard quality investigations
- Operating within a fast-paced shipbuilding environment, supporting the Quality Manager and collaborating with internal teams and external stakeholders
This role is full time, 36 hours per week Monday to Thursday with overtime available at weekends and is based on site at Rosyth.
Essential experience of the NDT Quality Inspector
- Proven experience in heavy manufacturing environments, with fabrication and structural expertise
- Demonstrable background in welding inspection and NDT, ideally ultrasonic testing
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications
- Skilled in assessing production and subcontractor work for quality and technical compliance
- Strong understanding of quality control fundamentals
Qualifications for the NDT Quality Inspector
- Recognised engineering trade qualification (e.g. Fabrication, Welding, Shipwright, Marine Engineering) and relevant academic level (HNC/SVQ Level 3)
- Minimum CSWIP 3.1 (or equivalent)
- Minimum PCN Level 2 in Ultrasonic Testing (UT)
- Additional NDT certifications (e.g. Magnetic Particle Testing, Penetrant Testing) – Preferred
- Coatings inspection certifications – Preferred
Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
