The role
As a NDT Quality Inspector, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You’ll be at the forefront of one of the UK’s most ambitious defence programmes - the Type 31 Frigate. This is your opportunity to contribute to a project that protects global communities and strengthens national security. You’ll ensure the structural integrity and quality of our advanced naval vessels, playing a vital role in delivering engineering excellence.
Day-to-day you’ll be:
- Performing structural and NDT inspections, including ultrasonic testing of welds and components.
- Coordinating Lloyd’s Register inspections and managing inspection schedules.
- Conducting product verification audits and onboard quality investigations.
- Supporting the Quality Manager and collaborating with internal manufacturing teams.
- Ensuring compliance with engineering standards and specifications.
This role is full time, 36 hours per week Monday to Thursday with overtime opportunities available at weekends and is based on site at Rosyth.
Essential experience of the NDT Quality Inspector
- Experience in heavy manufacturing environments, ideally involving fabrication and structural work.
- Proven expertise in welding and NDT inspection, particularly ultrasonic testing.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
- Skilled in assessing production and subcontractor work for quality and compliance.
- Strong understanding of quality control principles.
Qualifications for the NDT Quality Inspector
- SVQ Level 3 or above in a recognised engineering trade (e.g., Fabrication, Welding, Shipwright, Marine Engineering).
- Minimum CSWIP 3.1 (or equivalent).
- Minimum PCN Level 2 in Ultrasonic Testing (Magnetic Particle and Penetrant Testing are beneficial).
- Additional NDT or coatings inspection certifications are advantageous.
Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
