The Role
As Network Operator you will play a pivotal role in supporting the contract to manage and operate Skynet, the UK Ministry of Defence’s (MOD) military satellite communications system and ground stations.
Day-to-day, you’ll support Babcock customers all over the world, using the Skynet constellation of satellites. Your role will provide first-line technical solutions/fault investigations for MOD customer incidents within the Skynet Network.
The Network Operators responsibilities will include:
- Performing health checks of the network and underlying infrastructure
- Provide 1st line investigations within the Skynet Network for both Radio Frequency (RF) and IP Network.
- Complete set-ups and testing of new user accesses.
- Generating reports to validate network state and inform customers
This role is full time, 37 hours per week and is based on site at Hawthorn, Corsham, Wiltshire.
Essential Experience of the Network Operator
With a broad range of skills acquired during your career, this role would suit a technician with some or all of the following experience:
- Broad understanding of data comms.
- Good IP switching and routing skills.
- Broad exposure to the telecommunications industry in general.
- Exposure to / familiarity with satellite communications systems.
- CCNA qualifications would be beneficial.
Qualifications for the Network Operator
- HNC/HND or equivalent qualification relating to computer networks, radio frequency engineering or similar.
Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role. You may also be required to achieve Developed Vetting (DV) security check, once in post.
