The role

As a Mechanical Fitter within our Shiplift Facility, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You’ll be at the heart of operations that keep our naval assets mission ready. This is a hands-on role where your mechanical expertise will directly support national defence, making a real impact on the safety and security of the UK.

Day-to-day you’ll be:

  • Performing mechanical fitting, inspections and repairs on Shiplift systems and equipment.
  • Completing planned preventative maintenance and nuclear-implicated tasks.
  • Identifying and resolving system defects to maintain performance and availability.
  • Suggesting improvements to systems and processes to boost productivity.
  • Working safely within all health and safety legislation and company policies.

This role is full time, 36 hours per week Monday to Thursday, 07:15 to 16:45 and is based on site at HMNB Clyde Faslane.

Essential experience of the Mechanical Fitter

  • Background in marine or industrial engineering, with mechanical maintenance experience.
  • Comfortable working at heights, in confined spaces and in all weather conditions.
  • Able to read technical drawings and solve problems with precision and attention to detail.
  • Skilled in fault finding and delivering high-quality work to strict standards.
  • Familiar with maintenance procedures, COSHH, risk assessments and safe systems of work.

Qualifications for the Mechanical Fitter

  • Recognised Mechanical Engineering Apprenticeship qualified to SVQ Level 3 (or NVQ/C&G equivalent), or HNC and above in a Mechanical Engineering discipline with relevant industry experience.

Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
