At Cavendish Nuclear we’re working to create a safe and secure world, together, and if you join us, you can play your part as a Mechanical Building Services Engineer at our Glasgow site.

The role

As a Mechanical Building Services Engineer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. This opportunity will involve working as a Mechanical Engineer as part of a JV team on the Nuclear Technical Support Provider (NTSP) framework. This seven-year framework, with the option of a further three years, will deliver specialist nuclear technical services valued between £250-million to £400-million to support DIO, Navy Command and other MOD organisations.

The framework will support the Clyde Infrastructure Programme (CIP) and wider Royal Navy and defence requirements. Its primary focus will be on delivering the refurbishment and upgrade of critical infrastructure at HMNB Clyde.

Day-to-day, you’ll be involved in supporting the design and delivery of building services systems—such as HVAC, lighting, water, and fire protection—within complex nuclear facilities. You’ll help prepare technical documentation, contribute to CAD modelling and system layouts, and assist in performance analysis and compliance checks. Working closely with multidisciplinary teams, you’ll ensure building services solutions meet safety, quality, and regulatory standards. You’ll also support project planning, engage with clients and stakeholders, and have opportunities to grow your expertise in delivering innovative, sustainable, and compliant building services solutions.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Collaborate with building services engineers and cross-functional teams to support the integration of mechanical, electrical, and public health systems into nuclear infrastructure projects.
  • Assist in client and stakeholder engagement, contributing to technical discussions, helping resolve building services challenges, and ensuring clear communication of design intent and progress.
  • Apply relevant building services standards and codes (e.g., CIBSE, BS, ISO) to ensure compliance and best practice across all technical activities.
  • Support safety and regulatory assessments, particularly in relation to ventilation, fire safety, and environmental control systems, promoting a strong safety culture.
  • Contribute to the production and review of building services deliverables, including system schematics, calculations, equipment schedules, technical specifications, and CAD/Revit models.
  • Help maintain engineering configuration control, ensuring the design intent and integrity are upheld throughout the project lifecycle.

This role is full time, 37 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with 2 days in the office/onsite and 3 days working from home.

Essential experience of the Mechanical Building Services Engineer

  • Ability to work effectively within multi-disciplinary teams to support the delivery of engineering solutions across a range of project types.
  • Experience in handling a variety of engineering tasks, demonstrating adaptability across different levels of complexity.
  • Clear and confident communication skills, with the capability to collaborate across disciplines and engage with clients and stakeholders.
