As a Material and Inventory Planner, you’ll play a vital role in ensuring the right materials are available at the right time to support complex engineering and production activities at one of the UK’s most strategically important defence sites. Your work will directly enable delivery across ship and submarine programmes that are critical to national security.
Day-to-day, you’ll analyse demand, optimise inventory, mitigate supply risks and work closely with production, project and supply chain teams to keep operations running smoothly.
- Planning and managing material planned orders through Babcock’s ERP systems, including SAP.
- Managing inventory demand and enablement to meet operational requirements within business policies and budgets.
- Identifying, managing and mitigating supply risks across short‑, medium‑ and long‑term planning horizons.
- Acting as the interface between production, projects, supply chain and inventory teams to ensure effective material availability.
- Driving continuous improvement to enhance planning processes, data quality and system effectiveness.
This role is full time, 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with a minimum of 3 days in the office/onsite.
Essential experience of the Material and Inventory Planner
- Experience in inventory planning and control techniques within a manufacturing or production environment.
- Strong analytical thinking, planning and organisational skills.
- A proactive, solutions‑focused approach with the ability to own issues through to resolution.
- Understanding of continuous improvement principles.
- Experience or knowledge of SAP or similar ERP systems - Desirable
Qualifications for the Material and Inventory Planner
- Minimum Level 2 NVQ or equivalent educational standard.
- Experience using master production scheduling and material requirements planning systems.
- Further qualifications or training in supply chain, logistics or materials management - Desirable
Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Standard (BPSS) security clearance for this role.
