The role
As an HGV Class C Driver, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You’ll sit at the heart of a nationally significant operation, ensuring the safe, timely and compliant movement of specialist emergency response vehicles and equipment across the UK. You’ll work in a trusted, close‑knit team where safety, integrity and pride in what we do come first. Alongside building long‑term driving experience within a high‑profile defence and emergency services environment, you’ll also strengthen your technical awareness, stakeholder engagement skills and professional confidence.

Day‑to‑day you’ll be:
- Delivering and collecting New Dimensions HGV and non‑HGV vehicles nationwide in line with scheduled plans
- Maintaining vehicles, tools and working areas to a clean, safe and compliant standard
- Completing basic diagnostics, including tachograph checks, and ensuring accurate documentation
- Recording and reporting work progress clearly while communicating effectively with supervisors
- Representing Babcock professionally at Fire and Rescue Service sites, always promoting safety and trust
Please note that this position involves travel/working across a range of internal and customer sites, as a requirement of the role.
This is a full‑time, 40‑hour per week role, based on site at Bardon.
Set working times are 07:30–16:30, with overtime, call‑out and occasional overnight stays required (hotel provided). Travel to other Babcock and customer sites across the UK will be expected.
Essential experience of the HGV Class C Driver:
- Proven experience driving HGV Class C vehicles
- Confidence operating vehicles safely across long distances and varied environments
- Experience using vehicle compliance processes and tachograph systems
- A strong safety‑first mindset with attention to detail
- Experience representing an organisation professionally with customers or partners
Qualifications for the HGV Class C Driver:
- Full UK manual driving licence
- HGV Class C licence ( Manual or Auto)
- Valid Driver Certificate of Professional Competence
- Up‑to‑date Driver CPC training
Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Standard (BPSS) security clearance for this role.
