The role

As a Health, Safety and Environmental Advisor, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You'll be embedded within submarine operations, supporting complex engineering activities in a highly regulated nuclear environment. This is an opportunity to influence safety performance where it matters most, partnering directly with operational teams to manage risk, drive continuous improvement, and help deliver vital defence programmes that protect national security.

Day-to-day you'll be required to:

  • Providing expert health, safety and environmental advice to operational teams, managers and stakeholders.
  • Conducting workplace inspections, audits and safety reviews to identify hazards and promote best practice.
  • Supporting risk assessments and reviewing safe systems of work to ensure compliance with company standards and legislation.
  • Investigating incidents, accidents and near misses, identifying root causes and driving corrective actions.
  • Collaborating with engineers, contractors and project teams to deliver safety improvements and foster a positive safety culture.

This role is full time, 37 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with a minimum of three days onsite at Rosyth per week.

Essential experience of the Health, Safety and Environmental Advisor

  • Experience in a health, safety and environmental advisory role within a high-risk industry such as marine, shipbuilding, engineering, power generation, manufacturing or construction.
  • Proven ability to influence operational teams and managers to effectively manage risk and maintain safe working practices.
  • Experience conducting inspections, audits and compliance reviews, identifying hazards and implementing practical controls.
  • Experience investigating incidents and near misses, including root cause analysis and corrective action management.
  • Strong working knowledge of United Kingdom health and safety legislation within a highly regulated environment.

Qualifications for the Health, Safety and Environmental Advisor

  • NEBOSH Certificate (Level 3) in Occupational Health and Safety, or an equivalent recognised qualification.
  • IOSH membership or membership of a similar professional body is desirable
  • Working knowledge of Construction Design and Management Regulations is desirable
  • Experience of nuclear industry standards, regulatory frameworks or other highly regulated environments would be advantageous

The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
