The role
As a Head of Engineering, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You’ll be at the forefront of shaping the strategic direction of engineering across Babcock’s Nuclear Sector. This is a high-impact leadership role where you’ll drive excellence in engineering management arrangements, compliance, and reporting.
Day-to-day, you’ll lead the development and implementation of sector-wide engineering standards, ensuring our people, processes, and tools are aligned to deliver consistently and effectively.
- Leading the development, implementation, and maintenance of Nuclear Sector Engineering Management Arrangements
- Collaborating across Babcock globally to ensure the integrity of our engineering output
- Driving the development and application of Technical Risk Management and Product Safety Arrangements for the sector
- Measuring compliance and identifying opportunities for continuous improvement
- Enhancing knowledge sharing and lessons learnt across the sector
This role is full time, 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with 2 days in the office/onsite (at either Devonport Royal Dockyard, Babcock Technology Centre in Bristol, HM Naval Base - Clyde, Leicester Radar Road or Barrow-in-Furness) and 3 days working from home.
Essential experience of the Head of Engineering
- Proven experience in high hazard or high consequence engineering environments
- Strong engineering management background across the full product lifecycle
- Demonstrated leadership and people management skills
- Ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels
- Solid understanding of change and project management principles
Qualifications for the Head of Engineering
- Degree level or higher in a STEM discipline
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) or equivalent professional registration

The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
