The role

As a General Engineering Lead Trainer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You’ll be at the forefront of delivering and developing high-quality engineering training for military trainees. This is more than just a teaching role – it’s a leadership opportunity where your expertise will directly impact national defence capability, support the professional growth of future engineers and enhance Babcock’s reputation with the Ministry of Defence.

Day-to-day, you’ll be:

  • Leading and supporting a team of instructors, managing performance, development and HR responsibilities
  • Delivering and evolving training in line with approved Course Training Packages (CTPs)
  • Managing training resources, tools and facilities to ensure operational readiness and compliance
  • Monitoring trainee progress, providing feedback and supporting individual development
  • Driving continuous improvement through observations, assessments and collaboration with planning and validation teams

This role is full time, 37 hours per week and is based on site at Lyneham.

Essential experience of the General Engineering Lead Trainer:

  • Proven leadership experience in a training or engineering environment
  • Strong understanding of Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) and Quality procedures
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to lead, coach and inspire
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and digital tools
  • Demonstrated ability to manage people and performance effectively

Qualifications for the General Engineering Lead Trainer:

  • Engineering qualification at City & Guilds Level 3 or above (or equivalent)
  • A teaching or training qualification would be advantageous but not essential

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
