The role

As an Engineering Technician, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. you’ll be part of a skilled team responsible for regenerating Royal Navy Type 23 Frigates during deep maintenance periods. You’ll bring systems and equipment back to life - replacing the role traditionally held by sailors in the dockyard.

This is a hands-on, high-impact role where your technical expertise will directly contribute to national defence readiness. It’s a chance to grow your skills, work on complex marine systems, and be part of something bigger.

Day-to-day, you’ll maintain mechanical and electrical systems, report equipment status, and restore functionality through defect resolution.

  • Conducting maintenance of dedicated mechanical and electrical systems
  • Reporting on system equipment and condition to ensure stakeholder awareness
  • Rectifying defects and restoring equipment to operational condition

This role is full time, 35 hours per week and is based on site at Devonport Royal Dockyard.

Essential experience of the Engineering Technician

  • IT skills and ability to use maintenance management systems
  • Adaptable and flexible across a variety of marine maintenance tasks
  • Proactive attitude and good communication skills
  • Seamanship skills or previous experience as a Royal Navy Engineering Technician or Seaman

Qualifications for the Engineering Technician

  • Qualified electrical or mechanical technician with strong engineering standards
  • ONC, Level 3 NVQ or BTEC, or equivalent qualification in an engineering discipline with demonstrable experience

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
