The role

As an Employee Relations Specialist, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You'll join a newly created position that offers a unique opportunity to shape and influence how employee relations support is delivered across a critical part of our business. This is far more than a transactional employee relations role. You'll manage complex cases, coach leaders, provide expert employment law guidance, collaborate with trade union representatives, and drive continuous improvement initiatives that enhance the employee experience.

Day-to-day you'll be required to:

  • Managing a portfolio of complex employee relations cases, including disciplinaries, grievances, investigations and absence management matters.
  • Providing expert advice and coaching to managers on employment law, company policies and employee relations best practice.
  • Conducting workplace investigations, gathering evidence, interviewing stakeholders and producing detailed reports and recommendations.
  • Building effective relationships with managers, employees and trade union representatives to resolve workplace issues fairly and consistently.
  • Analysing employee relations trends and case data to identify risks, recommend improvements and support a positive workplace culture.

This role is full time, 36 hours per week, Monday to Thursday 07:15 – 16:45 and provides hybrid working arrangements with 2 days in the office/onsite and 2 days working from home.

Essential experience of the Employee Relations Specialist

  • Proven experience managing complex employee relations cases within a large and fast-paced organisation.
  • Strong working knowledge of United Kingdom employment law and its practical workplace application.
  • Experience working within a unionised environment and engaging with trade union representatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to coach and influence managers on people management and employee relations matters.
  • Experience managing a high-volume caseload while producing accurate documentation and investigation reports.

Qualifications for the Employee Relations Specialist

  • CIPD Level 5 qualification (or equivalent Human Resources qualification), or demonstrable equivalent employee relations experience.
  • Strong understanding of United Kingdom employment law and Human Resources best practice.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development and commitment to maintaining current employment law knowledge.
  • Qualification or training in workplace investigations, mediation, conflict resolution, or employee relations practices is desirable

Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.

Many of the positions within our company are subject to national security clearance and Trade Control restrictions. This means that your eligibility for certain roles may be affected by your place of birth, nationality, current or former citizenship, and any residency you hold or have held.
