The role
As an Emergency Planning Officer, You’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary in this purpose-led role at the heart of national defence, where you will grow your expertise across nuclear regulation, incident management and stakeholder engagement—building a career with real impact in defence, aerospace and engineering.
Day-to-day, you’ll help keep one of the UK’s most complex defence sites prepared, resilient and ready to respond. Your work will shape emergency arrangements that protect our people, our communities and the Royal Navy assets we support.
- Lead the development, review and continual improvement of on-site emergency arrangements and plans.
- Develop risk assessments and scenarios to inform preparedness, response and recovery activities.
- Maintain emergency planning documentation and ensure compliance with regulatory and site requirements. Design and deliver engaging emergency response training and exercises for teams across the site and with partners.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external agencies to ensure integrated, tested and effective arrangements.
This role is full time, 35 hours per week and is based on site at Devonport Royal Dockyard.
Essential experience of the Emergency Planning Officer
- Strong knowledge of Devonport site emergency arrangements and emergency planning.
- Awareness of Nuclear Licensing/Authorisation, REPPIR and the Civil Contingencies Act.
- Proven risk assessment capability.
- Ability to design and deliver emergency response training packages.
- A flexible, enthusiastic and committed approach with strong teamwork and communication skills.
Qualifications for the Emergency Planning Officer
- ONC / A level (or equivalent) or relevant experience in emergency planning or training.
- Train the Trainer qualification - Desirable
- Membership of the Emergency Planning Society (or similar professional body) - Desirable
Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information (NNPPI) security clearance for this role.
