The role

As an Electrical Test Engineer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. you’ll be part of a specialist commissioning team responsible for testing and calibrating electrical systems on Royal Navy submarines. This is a hands-on engineering role where your work directly contributes to national security, ensuring our vessels are safe, reliable, and mission-ready.

Day-to-day you’ll be:

  • Conducting commissioning, testing and calibration activities on submarine electrical systems
  • Supporting the Senior Test Engineer to optimise team performance
  • Applying nuclear safety protocols and ensuring compliance with Clyde Safety Management Arrangements
  • Producing technical documentation and test reports
  • Diagnosing electrical faults and maintaining high safety and quality standards

This role is full time, 36 hours per week and is based on site at HMNB Clyde, Faslane. Shift patterns apply and may vary depending on operational requirements. A shift allowance of 35% is included for roles working these patterns.

Essential experience of the Electrical Test Engineer

  • Strong electrical diagnostic and fault-finding skills
  • Effective interpersonal and relationship-building abilities
  • Understanding of commissioning processes (desirable but not essential)

Qualifications for the Electrical Test Engineer

  • Recognised Electrical Engineering Apprenticeship or HNC
  • However, those with proven experience in a relevant engineering discipline will also be considered.

Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
