The role

As a Senior Mechanical Test Engineer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You’ll lead and mentor a team delivering commissioning, testing, and calibration activities for some of the most advanced naval platforms in the world. Your work will directly support the Royal Navy’s Vanguard and Astute-Class submarines, ensuring they remain safe, operational, and ready for mission-critical tasks.

Day-to-day you’ll be required to:

  • Lead and motivate a team of Test Engineers, providing coaching and line management support.
  • Supervise commissioning, testing, and calibration activities in line with Clyde Safety Management Arrangements.
  • Liaise with planning teams to ensure work is scheduled and resourced effectively.
  • Support the creation and authorisation of test forms, procedures, and technical reports.
  • Drive efficiency and utilisation across the commissioning team.

This role is full time, 36 hours per week and is based on site at HMNB Clyde, Faslane. Shift patterns apply and may vary depending on operational requirements. A shift allowance of 35% is included for roles working these patterns.

Essential experience of the Senior Mechanical Test Engineer

  • Strong understanding of commissioning processes.
  • Mechanical diagnostic and fault-finding expertise.
  • Proficiency with IT systems including spreadsheets and MS Office.
  • Commitment to Health & Safety principles in all work.
  • Ability to manage priorities in a high-pressure environment.

Qualifications for the Senior Mechanical Test Engineer

  • Recognised Mechanical Engineering Apprenticeship or HNC (or equivalent experience in a relevant engineering discipline).

Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
