• Delivering reactive and planned works on a range of different commercial gas appliances, heating systems and other mechanical plant found within a boiler house.
• Carry out annual servicing, maintenance, inspection, and repair services to commercial boilers.
• Complete small works, basic wet plumbing, installation and refurbishment on all building service and heating systems.
• Produce technical reports on works completed via PDA and complete gas servicing records where necessary.
• Diagnose faults and repair leaks on all systems.
• Liaise with electrical and BMS team, providing overlap where required to resolve issues.
• Respond to and make safe emergency works following processes set out by the manufacturer’s instructions/GEM’s Client/GEM.
• Ensure appropriate checks are carried out in line with current gas safety legislation and standards.
• Attend relevant training where necessary to ensure professional competency and industry skills are maintained.
• Complete tasks raised by the planning team within SLA requirements, with work orders raised and completed in real time,
• Providing updates of job statuses to planning team using a PDA device for each job.
• Work with the planning and procurement team to ensure correct parts are ordered and installed with minimal disruption to GEM’s clients.
• Maintain good housekeeping on jobs carried out.
• Always Maintaining a positive image of the company by displaying high levels of professionalism and excellent customer service to all clients of GEM.
• Supporting change and encouraging continuous improvement to better working practices and processes ensuring GEM meets the needs of its customers and clients.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Gas Safe Registered.
• Candidates must be in possession of the following ACS qualifications: CoDNCO1, CIGA1, TPCP1A, CDGA1, CCN1.
• L1-Energy Conservation L1 (C&G 6084)
• CENWAT
• CKR1
• Water Regulations 1999 & Water Byelaws
• Installation & Servicing of Domestic Unvented Hot Water Storage Systems
• It would be desirable for candidates to be in possession of ACS qualifications: CORT1, ICPN1.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Knowledge & Experience
• Thorough knowledge and experience (at least 5 years) with commission, service, repair and breakdown of pumps, pressurisation units, plate heat exchangers.
• Thorough knowledge and experience (at least 5 years) with forced draft burners (such as Riello, Nuway, Wieshaupt - DESIRABLE)
• Thorough knowledge and experience (at least 5 years) with boilers (such as Remeha, Hoval, Cochran, Potterton, Hamworthy) of sizes between 65Kw to 6Mw (combined).
• Mechanical and electrical components, BMS controls (Trend, Honeywell, Seachange) and electrical interlock systems (such as Gastech, Medam) and flue proving systems.
• BMS experience is also necessary.
• Use of a PDA to communicate and report back to a planning/support team.
• Safe working knowledge and experience of single and three phase electrical systems/testing.
• Experience with repairs and installation works on plant equipment.
• Knowledge of HASAWA 1974 and working practices in a construction or building services sector.
• Function and appreciation of gas fired water heaters in a commercial setting.
• Planning, prioritising, coordinating, multi-tasking and completing work assignments within deadlines in a busy environment.
Skills
• Pragmatic, efficient and confident approach to decision-making.
• Great communicator, who is able to turn technical jargon into information understandable to different audiences of GEM (staff, clients, customers etc).
• Translate drawings and schematic diagrams and have a keen eye for detail.
• Have strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
• Being organised, keeping your workplace/station clean and tidy.
• Able to thoroughly examine and investigate issues that arise in a commercial gas/heating setting, and subsequently complete reports on findings with recommendations to resolve and fix the issue(s).
• Able to learn new processes in a reasonably fast-paced way.
SPECIAL FACTORS
The successful candidate will…
• Be flexible in their work approach to working hours. May be asked to work outside of normal working hours as and when required for GEM to meet its commitments to its contracts. This may be the participation in an “out of hours” call out rota and overtime.
• Be fluent in English and capable of communication via speaking, reading and writing.
• Have a full driving licence UK/EU.
• Be prepared to undergo an Enhanced DBS check as per GEM’s terms of employment.
• Reside in a location that allows the role holder to commute to London to respond to an emergency within two hours (as per our contractual obligations).
