The role
As a Chief Engineer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You’ll be at the forefront of engineering leadership, driving technical excellence across high-impact defence programmes.
Day-to-day, you’ll lead the development and delivery of engineering solutions that support the Royal Navy’s submarine maintenance and infrastructure initiatives. This is a strategic role where your expertise will shape the future of defence engineering and contribute directly to national security.
- Leading the development and delivery of engineering solutions across multiple infrastructure projects
- Providing technical leadership and guidance to engineering teams
- Ensuring compliance with engineering standards, regulations and safety requirements
- Collaborating with stakeholders to define project scope and technical requirements
- Driving innovation and continuous improvement in engineering practices
This role is full time, 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements.
Essential experience of the Chief Engineer
- Extensive experience in engineering leadership within complex infrastructure or defence projects
- Strong understanding of engineering governance and assurance processes
- Proven ability to manage multidisciplinary teams and deliver technical solutions
- Experience in stakeholder engagement and technical decision-making
- Knowledge of relevant engineering standards and regulatory frameworks
Qualifications for the Chief Engineer
- Degree in Engineering or related discipline
- Chartered Engineer status or working towards chartership
- Project Management qualifications (e.g. APM PMQ) are desirable
