The role

As a Buyer, you’ll play a vital role in supporting major nuclear infrastructure and defence programmes by sourcing and procuring materials, plant and equipment. You will ensure procurement activities are delivered efficiently and in line with project schedules, while meeting strict safety, quality, regulatory, and commercial standards.

Day-to-day, you’ll help secure reliable and cost-effective supply solutions that keep complex projects on track. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to critical national programmes while developing your procurement and supply chain career in a highly regulated, fast-paced environment.

  • Sourcing and procuring materials, plant, equipment, and services to support infrastructure and construction projects
  • Preparing and issuing requests for quotation and purchase orders in line with procurement plans
  • Evaluating supplier tenders against technical, commercial, quality, and delivery requirements
  • Managing supplier performance, expediting deliveries, and supporting project milestones
  • Collaborating with project stakeholders to manage demand, risks, and procurement priorities

This role is full time, 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with a minimum of 2 days in the office/onsite.

Essential experience of the Buyer

  • Proven experience in a Buyer or Procurement role within construction, infrastructure, energy, defence or regulated industries
  • Experience sourcing materials, plant and equipment.
  • Strong understanding of procurement processes, commercial principles, and contract terms
  • Experience working within quality-controlled or highly regulated environments
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills

Qualifications for the Buyer

  • Degree, HNC, HND, or equivalent experience in Procurement, Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, or a related discipline
  • Working towards or holding a professional procurement qualification such as Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply - Desirable

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
