The role

As an Access Officer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. This is a customer-facing position where you’ll make a real difference by safeguarding operations and supporting national security, while developing your career in a dynamic and purpose-driven environment.

Day-to-day, you’ll be the first point of contact for all visitors and employees entering the Royal Devonport Dockyard. Your role is critical in maintaining security and compliance, ensuring smooth and efficient access to one of the UK’s most important defence sites.

  • Providing a professional customer service and acting as the gateway to the Devonport site
  • Delivering efficient counter services to ensure site access complies with MOD requirements
  • Processing site access applications, including VIP visits and pass renewals
  • Reviewing and improving processes to enhance efficiency and value for money
  • Promoting team ethos and striving to meet contractual Key Performance indicators

This role is full time, 35 hours per week and is based on site at Devonport Royal Dockyard, working shift patterns: 6.30 - 14.30 Monday - Thursday and 06.30 - 11.30 Friday.

Essential experience of the Access Officer

  • Good knowledge of IT systems
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Ideally, experience in a security-related role
  • Ability to work accurately and efficiently in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills

Qualifications for the Access Officer

  • GCSEs in Maths and English (or equivalent)
  • NVQ in Customer Service (preferred)

Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
