The role
As a Trainee Survival Equipment Technician, you’ll enter an exciting aviation Engineering environment where you’ll learn to maintain and repair survival equipment essential for the safety of pilots during flying training and beyond. It’s a unique opportunity to gain hands on experience, develop technical skills, and build a career that matters.
Day-to-day, you’ll support the future pilots of the Army, Royal Navy, and Royal Air Force making a real difference to national defence and aircrew safety.
- Repair and maintain aircrew survival systems and equipment
- Carry out routine maintenance on clothing, parachutes, emergency beacons, and flotation devices
- Manage stock checks, consumables, and tool control
- Assist with sizing and fitting helmets, parachutes, gloves, and boots for cadets
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and maintain accurate records
Please note that the successful candidate will be required to pass a targeted medical questionnaire and medical examination as a condition of employment for this role.
This role is full time, 40 hours per week and is based on site at Boscombe Down.
Essential experience of the Trainee Survival Equipment Technician
- A genuine interest in engineering and aviation
- Ability to meet Ministry of Defence security requirements, including Enhanced DBS and Child Barring Service checks
Qualifications for the Trainee Survival Equipment Technician
- No formal qualifications required — full training provided
Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain an enhanced DBS and Child Barring Service security clearance for this role.
