The role

As a Senior Supportability Engineer – Design Change, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. This is a unique role in which you will be responsible for aspects of the design change development on complex Royal Navy warships from start to finish and being the technical authority for those changes.

Day-to-day, you’ll work collaboratively with your direct report and class cell to plan, mature and set the requirement on the design services to deliver installation guidelines for Royal Navy Warships design changes interacting with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders. You will:

  • Collaborate with Warship Support to develop the Type 26 class cell under Common Support Model (CSM) governance
  • Plan and safely deliver capability insertions in line with Warship Technical Authority (WTA) responsibilities
  • Capture and monitor technical requirements for each design change task
  • Lead WTA governance activities, including requirement management, gate reviews, and design reviews
  • Conduct technical investigations and analysis to support problem resolution and design enhancements

This role is full time, 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements.

Essential experience of the Senior Supportability Engineer – Design Change

  • Skilled in end-to-end engineering design change processes for complex assets
  • Proficient in managing requirements, conducting design reviews, and verifying design change installations
  • Collaborative experience in delivering through-life support for complex systems
  • Strong capability in producing high-quality technical documentation and reports
  • Practical application of project management methodologies to technical programmes

Qualifications for the Senior Supportability Engineer – Design Change

  • Engineering or science qualification (preferably bachelor's) with relevant technical experience
  • Professionally registered (IEng/CEng) or progressing toward registration via CPD with a recognized institution (e.g. IET, IMechE)
