The role
As a Source to Contract Manager, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. This role will be a part of Mission Systems’ Space Business Unit supporting the MOD’s SkyNet - Satellite Communications System.
Day-to-day, you’ll leading sourcing initiatives that support both current operations and business growth and, to manage large sub-contracts. This role is pivotal in shaping sourcing strategies, supporting customer-driven change proposals, and managing supplier relationships.
- Develop and execute the Space Supply Chain sourcing strategy in line with the business units’ long-term goals and future capability requirements.
- Support early procurement engagement during programme bids and mobilisation phases.
- Lead procurement input and impact analysis for customer change requests and contract amendments.
- Coordinate cross-functional assessments to evaluate cost, delivery, and commercial factors.
- Negotiate and administer supplier contracts and ensure alignment with programme delivery.
- Own end-to-end management of major subcontracts.
- Ensure sourcing decisions comply with internal governance, policies, and delegated authorities.
- Lead sourcing governance reviews and provide procurement updates to programme boards and senior stakeholders.
This role is full time, thirty-seven hours per week and requires regular travel across a range of internal and customer sites on a monthly basis alongside home working arrangements.
Essential experience of the Source to Contract Manager
- Experience in developing and delivering large strategic sourcing activities that have delivered significant value for the customer and business.
- Ability to demonstrate a curious and inventive mind set to create sourcing strategies.
- Demonstrable experience in a procurement role ideally in a Defence or Engineering environment.
- Experience in managing major subcontracts and suppliers.
- Strong knowledge of commercial negotiation, contracts, and supplier performance management.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills with ability to work cross-functionally.
- Proficiency in procurement systems and strategic sourcing tools.
Qualifications for the Source to Contract Manager
- Degree in Procurement, Supply Chain, Business, Law, or related discipline.
- Membership of a relevant professional body e.g. CIPS is advantageous but not essential.
