The role

As a Principal Scheduler, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. It’s an ideal opportunity to shape and develop on our existing procedures as well as looking at new continuous improvement initiatives across the function to support the programme delivery.

Day-to-day, you’ll support and deputise for the Planning Discipline Lead, in the support and processing of day to day scheduling activities.

  • Streamlining and aligning scheduling processes across the Marine Support Business Unit
  • Acting as deputy to the Discipline Lead, providing leadership and hands-on support for day-to-day scheduling activities.
  • Driving growth and continuous improvement initiatives within the Marine Support Planning domain, identifying and leading opportunities for enhancement.
  • Developing, maintaining, and controlling programme schedules
  • Conducting proactive schedule analysis and scenario planning to evaluate and implement the most effective strategies for managing change and growth.

This role is full time, 35 hours per week and is based on site at Devonport Royal Dockyard.

Essential experience of the Principal Scheduler

  • Proven expertise in scheduling complex projects within structured project management environments, ensuring precision and efficiency.
  • Advanced user of industry-standard scheduling tools, including Microsoft Project and Primavera P6.
  • Strong grasp of project controls principles and processes, supporting effective project delivery and governance.
  • Skilled in schedule risk analysis, enabling proactive identification and mitigation of potential delays.
  • Experienced team leader, with a track record of training, mentoring, and developing high-performing teams, complemented by excellent presentation and stakeholder engagement skills.

Qualifications for the Principal Scheduler

  • Qualified to ONC/OND or NVQ Level 3, with equivalent professional experience in technical and project environments.
  • Certified in Project Management (APM or equivalent) or possesses substantial hands-on expertise in project planning and delivery.
  • Holds an Advanced Primavera P6 Qualification

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
