The role
As a Principal Engineer - Non-Destructive Examination, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You’ll lead the delivery, development, and day-to-day management of the Non-Destructive Examination (NDE) department - a critical function that safeguards the system and structural integrity of submarine platforms and supporting infrastructure.
Day-to-day, you’ll champion continuous improvement, cultivate a high-performance culture, and support the professional growth of your team. Additionally, you will:
- Lead a multidisciplinary team of approximately 36, delivering inspection services across a broad range of techniques
- Oversee the NDE department and provide guidance to Senior NDE Engineers
- Manage resource allocation and workload demands in a high-assurance environment, optimising utilisation and efficiency of both personnel and equipment
- Ensure all activities comply with relevant standards, regulations, and legislation
This role is full time, 36 hours per week and is based on site at Faslane.
Essential experience of the Principal Engineer - Non-Destructive Examination
- In-depth expertise in Non-Destructive Examination techniques
- Strong understanding of Radiation Protection principles
- Demonstrated leadership and management experience
- Familiarity with submarine systems and equipment
Qualifications for the Principal Engineer - Non-Destructive Examination
- HNC/HND or higher in Engineering or a related technical discipline
- PCN Level II Radiography
- PCN Level II Ultrasonics
- At least two additional PCN Level II certifications
- ILM Level 3 or equivalent

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
