The role
As a Mechanical Fitter, you’ll be at the heart of one of the UK’s most exciting defence programmes — the Type 31 frigate build. This is a hands-on role where your mechanical expertise will directly contribute to the delivery of cutting-edge naval capability. You’ll be part of a dynamic team working in bays, manufacturing areas and build halls, installing and assembling critical components that power the Royal Navy’s future fleet.
Day-to-day, you’ll have the following responsibilities:
- Installing pumps, valves, pipework, filters, main engines and mounts
- Carrying out general mechanical fitting tasks across the build hall
- Using magnetic base drills and marking out fish plates
- Interpreting technical drawings and applying torque settings
- Diagnosing faults and ensuring high-quality workmanship
This role is full time, 36 hours per week and based onsite at Rosyth.
Essential experience of the Mechanical Fitter:
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
- Experience applying torque settings accurately
- Proven fault-finding skills in mechanical systems
- Background in heavy industry such as marine, oil & gas, automotive, aviation or shipbuilding
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, hands-on environment
Qualifications for the Mechanical Fitter:
- Apprenticeship in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) clearance for this role.
