The role

As an Instrument Assistant, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You will play a hands-on role in supporting the repair, maintenance, and calibration of radiation protection instruments—helping to ensure safety and precision in critical environments.

Day-to-day, you’ll

  • Ensure safe working practices in line with safety, quality, environmental, and site requirements.
  • Carry out practical tasks including Positron Emission Tomography (PET) lead manufacture/repair, detector screening, pressure system maintenance, and workshop housekeeping.
  • Support operations and maintenance activities across workshops and radiological controlled areas, including safe handling of radioactive sources.
  • Work independently and proactively within provided instructions to complete tasks efficiently.
  • Identify and implement service improvements, and confidently use basic hand tools.

This role is full time, 37 hours per week, and is based on site at Sellafield, Cumbria.

Essential experience of the Instrument Assistant:

  • Demonstrated experience working within structured industrial health and safety management systems, ensuring compliance with established protocols and promoting a safe working environment.

Qualifications for the Instrument Assistant:

  • Minimum of GCSE-level education (or equivalent), demonstrating strong foundational skills in English, mathematics, and science.
  • Full, valid United Kingdom driving licence required for travel between sites and operational locations.

Security Clearance
