The role
The Global Director of Engineering provides strategic leadership and oversight of engineering capability, integrity and delivery excellence, across the organisation.
Leading a high-impact central engineering team, the role ensures that engineering practices are robust, future-ready, and aligned with the Company’s long term strategic direction. The need for this role reflects our commitment to ‘Lifetime Engineering’ an approach to delivering for our customers that enables us to look at the bigger picture; to forge even closer committed partnerships which ensures we connect our know-how with their needs. The role is pivotal in fostering strong, collaborative relationships with Sector and Direct Reporting Country Engineering and Technology Directors to drive consistency, innovation, and performance.
As part of the Chief Delivery Office (CDO), the Global Director of Engineering will work alongside the other CDO functions to drive Effective, Efficient and Sustainable outcomes for the business.
Day-to-day, you will:
- Steer the global engineering strategy, ensuring alignment with corporate objectives and future growth ambitions.
- Provide Leadership and Drive integration across engineering delivery, capability, and integrity to ensure a unified and high-performing engineering organisation.
- Champion the development and implementation of global engineering frameworks, tools, and systems.
- Ensure effective governance, assurance, and compliance with technical, safety, and regulatory standards.
- Collaborate with Sector and Direct Reporting Country (DRC) Engineering and Technology Directors, HR, PMO, Finance, Technology and other functional leaders to ensure engineering supports business-wide objectives.
This role is full time, 37.5 hours per week and provides Hybrid working across the UK.
Essential experience of the Global Director of Engineering
- Significant relevant experience and subject matter expertise within a large, complex, global organisation
- A strong track record of technical leadership in complex organisations, and evidence of the ability to operate as a key part of a strategic leadership team.
- The ability to work effectively and collaboratively with senior stakeholders, globally, whilst leading teams, demonstrating strong technical and line management capability and the ability to motivate and develop high performing teams.
- A strategic thinker, with the ability to see ahead to future possibilities.
- Strong business acumen, with the ability to understand the needs of internal stakeholders, and to contribute to the development of sound, effective and efficient solutions.
Qualifications for the Global Director of Engineering
- Relevant and accredited Professional Engineering qualification.
- Professional engineering Chartered Engineering credential.
Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Standard (BPSS), Security Check (SC) and Developed Vetting (DV) security clearance for this role.
