The role
As an Engineering Manager, you’ll have the opportunity to work on high-profile, safety-critical projects that directly contribute to national security, while advancing your career in a dynamic and rewarding environment.
Day-to-day, you’ll take responsibility for managing the technical delivery of major infrastructure projects that support the Royal Navy’s submarine maintenance programme. You’ll act as the Technical Authority and single point of contact, leading resources and ensuring design outputs meet stringent safety and quality standards.

  • Scoping and managing the technical delivery of projects throughout their lifecycle
  • Supporting the Design Management Group to deliver complex design solutions to time, cost, and quality standards
  • Securing, organising, and leading internal and external resources as required
  • Ensuring design outputs are fit for purpose and meet safety-critical requirements
  • Applying structured design processes for conventional and nuclear facility applications

This role is focused specifically on operating as the Client side Intelligent Customer role for design and construction of a renovated site to house a new facility in a nuclear regulated environment. This role supports the cross-site capability and service links through the subway network, this includes but is not limited to:

  • Subway refurbishment and/or demolition / remedial works
  • New subway / service trench design (including all associated groundworks)
  • Mechanical and electrical service distribution

This role is full time, 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with a minimum of two days in the office/onsite.

Essential experience of the Engineering Manager

  • Strong technical background with excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Preferably a Civil Engineering background
  • Significant previous experience in engineering, construction, or infrastructure environments
  • Knowledge of the design lifecycle and logical problem-solving approach
  • Understanding of designing and substantiating solutions for safety-critical applications, ideally in a regulated industry

Qualifications for the Engineering Manager

  • Degree in a STEM subject (or equivalent experience)
  • Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status (or working towards), with membership of a relevant professional institution. Where the post holder is not registered then they should be able to evidence that they are working towards this, along with holding membership of a relevant professional institution.

Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information (NNPPI) security clearance for this role.
