The role
As an Engineering Design Manager, you’ll be at the heart of some of the UK’s most critical engineering projects. This is a unique opportunity to lead the technical delivery of complex design solutions within safety-critical facilities, supporting both nuclear and non-nuclear assets. You’ll be part of a growing and transforming team, helping to shape the future of engineering at Devonport.
Day-to-day, you’ll have the following responsibilities:
- Leading the technical delivery of engineering projects from concept to completion
- Managing internal and external resources to meet project demands
- Ensuring design outputs meet safety, quality, budget, and schedule requirements
- Supporting the development of structured design processes for regulated environments
- Acting as the single point of contact for technical authority on assigned projects.
You'll be working full-time, 35 hours per week. This role is a hybrid role with 2 days per week based onsite at our Devonport Royal Dockyard site.
Essential experience of the Engineering Design Manager:
- Strong technical background with excellent stakeholder management skills
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in engineering, construction, or infrastructure
- Proven understanding of the design lifecycle and problem-solving approaches
- Experience designing for safety-critical applications in regulated industries
Qualifications for the Engineering Design Manager:
- Degree in a STEM subject (or equivalent experience)
- Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status (or working towards it)
- Membership of a relevant professional institution

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) clearance for this role.
