The role

As a Commissioning Engineer – Maintenance, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You’ll support Babcock’s current and future ship design and build programmes, including export variants and other shipbuilding, refit, and commercial opportunities in the pipeline.

Day-to-day, you’ll be responsible for maintaining ship equipment throughout the build lifecycle, as well as inspecting, testing, evaluating, and accepting equipment across a wide range of applications. Additionally, you will:

  • Analyse issues related to plant and support systems, generate and submit solutions with full documentation, and obtain necessary approvals and signatures
  • Monitor progress, record test results, and witness final testing and acceptance of equipment in line with design, performance, safety, quality, and technical specifications
  • Ensure all documentation complies with project configuration control and Quality Assurance processes
  • Coach and mentor junior or less experienced staff, ensuring they understand relevant systems and protocols; review their work and provide verification for other commissioning engineers
  • Promote a quality-driven culture by recognising best practices and continuously implementing improvement initiatives

This role is full time, 36 hours per week Monday to Thursday and is based on site at Rosyth.

Essential experience of the Commissioning Engineer - Maintenance

  • Solid understanding and experience within an engineering environment
  • Experience in shipbuilding or the marine industry is desirable
  • Strong critical thinking skills - able to assess strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions and approaches
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organisational abilities
  • Experience in pneumatic and hydrostatic testing of structural vessels and piping systems

Qualifications for the Commissioning Engineer - Maintenance

  • HNC/HND level qualification in a mechanical engineering discipline, with relevant field experience
  • Membership of a recognised professional institution
