The role

As a Bid Manager, you’ll be at the heart of our business growth strategy—leading cross-functional teams to deliver winning proposals that support some of the UK’s most critical defence and engineering programmes. This is a dynamic and rewarding opportunity to influence major projects, drive innovation, and make a real impact on national security and global safety.

Day to day you’ll have the following responsibilities:

  • Leading and coordinating bid teams to develop compliant, cost-effective, and credible proposals.
  • Creating and managing Bid Management Plans, schedules, and stakeholder engagement activities.
  • Using Microsoft Dynamics and SharePoint for pipeline reporting and document control.
  • Driving Shipley-aligned proposal lifecycle activities including strategy and review sessions.
  • Managing governance processes across Babcock’s Business Growth Lifecycle, including Gate reviews and approvals.

You’ll be based at Rosyth Royal Dockyard Limited (RRDL), working 36 hours per week. Hybrid working patterns are available, with 2–3 days onsite and 1–2 days from home. Occasional travel to other Babcock sites such as Devonport and Bristol may be required.

Essential experience of the Bid Manager:

  • Proven success in business growth activities within defence or related sectors.
  • Experience applying recognised methodologies such as Shipley on major bids.
  • Ability to lead internal meetings at senior levels.
  • Experience as a Bid Manager.

Qualifications for the Bid Manager:

  • Ideally degree qualified, but not essential.

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
