The role

As an Assistant Buyer, you’ll be at the heart of our procurement operations, supporting the delivery of critical defence and engineering projects. This is a fantastic opportunity to develop your career in a dynamic and purpose-driven environment, where your work directly contributes to national security and innovation.

Day-to-day, you’ll have the following responsibilities:

  • Executing the requisition to order process within agreed service levels, up to a value of £2m
  • Supporting Buyers to protect Babcock’s commercial position through agreed terms and conditions
  • Managing order books and expediting processes to ensure timely delivery across the supply chain
  • Assisting with supplier onboarding and qualification to ensure compliance and readiness
  • Collaborating with finance teams to ensure on-time payment to suppliers.

This role is full time and provides hybrid working arrangements with 3 days in the office/onsite and 2 days working from home.

Essential experience of the Assistant Buyer:

  • Basic knowledge of operational procurement techniques
  • Familiarity with ERP systems such as IFS, SAP, or Oracle.

Qualifications for the Assistant Buyer:

  • Qualified to NQ level or equivalent through work experience
  • Willingness to study towards MCIPS or equivalent professional qualifications

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Standard (BPSS) security clearance for this role.
